"I found this album deeply melancholic and elegiac, but at the same time totally life-affirming... Puccini’s immortal melodies, which are dripping with beauty, seep through, but the most telling quality here is Chindamo’s ability to refashion the originals according to his own impeccable vision as an improviser" Eric Meyers The Australian, September 2017

It goes without saying that the melodies composed by Puccini are gorgeous, and this alone is reason enough for performing a set of his most beloved Arias. It also stands to reason that as the son of Italian migrants, I should have an affinity with Italian Opera, but the genesis of this project has more to do with the fact that I  wanted to spend some time alone with Puccini, to get to know him without the prima donnas, jealousies, tragedies, exaggerations,  murders and nervous breakdowns: just by way of his melodies and my piano. Puccini was a child of his time and as a contemporary of iconoclasts such as Debussy, Busoni was himself, a modernist, and through these miniatures of grand opera, the aim is to unveil a hidden side of them, perhaps their alter ego.  Ultimately, I wish to invite these Arias into my own orbit and explore them through the prism of my own soundscape.
